The site is situated directly on Clareville Beach facing due west, with extensive views across Pittwater. The ridgeline to the east, is dominated by beautiful mature angophoras that continue down to the waters edge.
The client required a new dwelling, which would take maximum advantage of the site, while ensuring privacy from neighbouring dwellings. They spoke of a tree-house with open plan living opening onto decks that could be used as an outdoor room throughout the year.
This house embraces an innovative structural solution with a highly expressive architectural form, designed to respond to the unique climate and location. A series of mono-pitch roofs allows for cross ventilation at high level and opens the living areas up to the east, revealing the densely wooded hillside behind the site.
The main living areas are positioned around a deck area, that can be semi-enclosed by fly-screens. The deck is a natural extension of the internal spaces, allowing the doors to remain open and the inhabitants to move seamlessly between indoors and outdoors.
The choice of materials, plays an integral part in creating the ambience, comfort and architectural expression of the house. The result is a house of light, breezes and uninterrupted views that is in harmony with its natural setting.
